The Largest Part of the Brain
The largest part of the brain is the cerebrum, which makes up 85% of the total brain volume. The cerebrum is divided into two hemispheres, the left and right, which are connected by a bundle of nerve fibers called the corpus callosum. Each hemisphere is further divided into four lobes: frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital.
The frontal lobe is located at the front of each hemisphere and is responsible for higher-level cognitive functions such as problem solving, decision making, planning, and language. It also plays a role in motor control and emotion.
The parietal lobe is located behind the frontal lobe and is responsible for processing sensory information from the body such as touch, pressure, temperature, and pain. It also helps with spatial orientation.
The temporal lobe is located on either side of the brain and is responsible for processing auditory information such as sound and language. It also plays a role in memory formation.
The occipital lobe is located at the back of each hemisphere and is responsible for processing visual information from the eyes. It also helps with recognizing shapes and colors.
