Measuring a Horse for Brushing Boots
Brushing boots are an important piece of equipment for any horse owner. They provide protection from knocks and scrapes, as well as helping to keep the horse’s legs clean and free from dirt and debris. To ensure that your horse has the best fit possible, it is important to measure them correctly before purchasing brushing boots.
Step 1: Measure the Length of the Horse’s Leg
The first step in measuring your horse for brushing boots is to measure the length of their leg. This can be done by standing next to the horse and using a tape measure to measure from the ground up to just below the knee or hock joint. Make sure to record this measurement in inches.
Step 2: Measure Around the Widest Part of the Leg
The second step is to measure around the widest part of your horse’s leg. This can be done by wrapping a tape measure around the leg at its thickest point, usually just above the fetlock joint. Again, make sure to record this measurement in inches.
Step 3: Choose the Right Size Boot
Once you have taken both measurements, you can use them to choose the right size boot for your horse. Most brushing boot manufacturers will provide a sizing chart which will indicate which size boot is suitable for each combination of measurements. If you are unsure, it is always best to err on the side of caution and choose a slightly larger size than necessary.
