Polishing Stainless Steel Running Boards

Stainless steel running boards are a great way to add style and functionality to your vehicle. However, over time they can become dull and scratched. To keep them looking their best, it is important to regularly polish them. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to polish stainless steel running boards.

Step 1: Clean the Running Boards

Before you begin polishing, it is important to make sure that the running boards are clean. Use a mild soap and water solution to remove any dirt or debris from the surface of the running boards. Once they are clean, dry them off with a soft cloth.

Step 2: Apply Polishing Compound

Once the running boards are clean and dry, you can begin polishing them. Start by applying a small amount of polishing compound to a soft cloth. Rub the compound into the surface of the running boards in a circular motion until it forms a thin layer. Allow the compound to sit for several minutes before continuing.

Step 3: Buff Out Scratches

If there are any scratches or scuffs on the running boards, use a buffing wheel attachment on an electric drill to buff them out. Make sure that you move the drill in a circular motion as you buff out any imperfections.

Step 4: Polish with Soft Cloth

Once all of the scratches have been buffed out, use a soft cloth to apply more polishing compound to the running boards. Rub the compound into the surface in a circular motion until it forms a thin layer. Allow it to sit for several minutes before wiping away any excess with a clean cloth.

Step 5: Finish with Wax

To finish off your polishing job, apply a coat of wax to protect the surface of your running boards from future damage. Use a soft cloth or applicator pad to apply an even layer of wax over the entire surface of the running boards. Allow it to sit for several minutes before buffing away any excess with another clean cloth.
