How to Demo Deck Boards

Demoing deck boards is a necessary step in replacing or repairing your deck. It can be a difficult and time-consuming task, but with the right tools and techniques, it can be done quickly and safely. Here are some tips on how to demo deck boards.

Step 1: Gather Your Tools

Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary tools for the job. You will need a hammer, pry bar, circular saw, drill, screwdriver, safety glasses, and work gloves. Make sure you have enough space to work in and that you are wearing appropriate clothing.

Step 2: Remove Fasteners

Using your screwdriver or drill, remove any screws or nails that are holding the deck boards in place. Be careful not to damage the surrounding wood as you do this.

Step 3: Cut Deck Boards

Once all of the fasteners have been removed, use your circular saw to cut through the deck boards. Make sure to cut along the length of the board so that it can be easily removed from the frame.

Step 4: Pry Up Deck Boards

Once all of the boards have been cut, use your pry bar to carefully lift up each board. Work slowly and carefully so that you don’t damage any of the surrounding wood.

Step 5: Dispose of Old Deck Boards

Once all of the old deck boards have been removed, dispose of them properly. Check with your local waste management company for instructions on how to properly dispose of construction materials.
