Installing Kerdi Over Cement Board
Kerdi is a waterproofing membrane that is used to protect walls and floors from water damage. It is often installed over cement board, which provides a strong, durable base for the membrane. Installing Kerdi over cement board is a relatively simple process that can be completed in just a few steps.
Step 1: Prepare the Surface
Before installing Kerdi, the surface must be properly prepared. This includes removing any existing tile or other materials, cleaning the surface of dirt and debris, and ensuring that it is level and free of cracks or other imperfections. Once the surface is ready, it should be covered with a layer of thinset mortar.
Step 2: Install the Cement Board
The next step is to install the cement board. This should be done using screws and washers to ensure that it is securely attached to the surface. The edges of the cement board should also be sealed with thinset mortar to prevent water from seeping through.
Step 3: Apply Kerdi Membrane
Once the cement board has been installed, it’s time to apply the Kerdi membrane. This should be done by rolling out the membrane and cutting it to size before applying it directly to the cement board. The edges of the membrane should then be sealed with thinset mortar to ensure a waterproof seal.
Step 4: Finish Up
Finally, once all of the steps have been completed, you can finish up by tiling over the Kerdi membrane. This will provide an attractive finish while also protecting your walls and floors from water damage.
