History of the Stitzel-Weller Distillery
The Stitzel-Weller Distillery has a long and storied history. It was originally founded by Julian P. “Pappy” Van Winkle Sr., who had been working in the whiskey industry since the late 1800s. He partnered with Alex T. Weller to form the Stitzel-Weller Distilling Company in 1935. The company quickly became one of the most successful distilleries in the country, producing some of the finest whiskeys available at the time.
In 1972, the company was sold to Norton Simon Inc., and production was moved to other locations. In 1991, it was purchased by Diageo, who then sold it to Heaven Hill Brands in 1999. Since then, Heaven Hill has been producing some of the finest whiskeys available today under the Blade and Bow label.
What Makes Blade and Bow Special?
Blade and Bow whiskeys are made using traditional methods that have been passed down through generations of master distillers. The whiskey is aged for at least five years in charred oak barrels before being bottled. This aging process gives Blade and Bow its unique flavor profile that includes notes of vanilla, caramel, oak, and spice.
