Keeping Birds Off Deck Posts
Birds can be a nuisance when they decide to make your deck posts their home. Not only do they leave behind droppings, but they can also cause damage to the wood or other materials used in the construction of your deck. Fortunately, there are several ways to keep birds away from your deck posts.
Visual Deterrents
One way to keep birds away from your deck posts is to use visual deterrents. Hang shiny objects such as old CDs or aluminum pie plates from the posts. The reflection of light off these objects will scare away most birds. You can also hang plastic owls or snakes around the posts, as these are known to deter birds.
Chemical Repellents
Another option is to use chemical repellents on the posts. These products contain ingredients that give off an unpleasant odor or taste that birds find unappealing. Be sure to follow the instructions on the product label for proper application and safety precautions.
Netting
Finally, you can install netting around the posts to prevent birds from landing on them. This is a more permanent solution, but it will effectively keep birds away from your deck posts. Make sure the netting is securely attached so that it won’t come loose and create a hazard.
