Brands, Inc.

History of Taco Bell

Taco Bell was founded by Glen Bell in 1962 in Downey, California. The first restaurant was called Taco-Tia and served tacos, burritos, and other Mexican-style dishes. In 1978, PepsiCo purchased Taco Bell and began expanding the chain across the United States. In 1997, PepsiCo spun off its restaurant division into a separate company called Tricon Global Restaurants, which later became Yum! Brands, Inc. Today, Taco Bell operates over 7,000 locations worldwide.
