How to Make a Buoy Bell

A buoy bell is a simple device used to alert boaters of their presence in the water. It is typically made from a metal or plastic tube, with a bell attached to the top. The bell is rung by the waves and wind, creating a distinctive sound that can be heard from some distance away. Making your own buoy bell is an easy project that requires only basic materials and tools.

Materials Needed

To make your own buoy bell, you will need:

  • A length of PVC pipe (1-2 inches in diameter)
  • A bell (preferably brass or copper)
  • A drill and drill bit
  • Wire or rope for hanging the bell
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint (optional)

Instructions

  1. Drill two holes into the PVC pipe, one at each end. The holes should be slightly larger than the wire or rope you are using to hang the bell.

  2. Thread the wire or rope through both holes and tie it securely. This will be used to hang the bell from a dock or boat.

  3. Attach the bell to the top of the PVC pipe using screws or glue. Make sure it is secure so it won’t come off when it’s being rung.

  4. Sand down any rough edges on the PVC pipe and paint it if desired.

  5. Hang your buoy bell from a dock or boat and enjoy!
