How to Deep Clean a Bathroom Sink Drain
A clogged or slow-draining bathroom sink can be an annoying problem. Fortunately, it’s usually easy to fix with a little bit of elbow grease and the right cleaning supplies. Here’s how to deep clean your bathroom sink drain and get it running smoothly again.
Step 1: Remove the Drain Cover
The first step is to remove the drain cover. This will give you access to the drain pipe so you can start cleaning. To do this, use a flathead screwdriver or a pair of pliers to unscrew the cover. Once it’s off, set it aside in a safe place.
Step 2: Clean Out the Pipe
Once you have access to the pipe, use a wire hanger or other long, thin object to reach down into the pipe and pull out any debris that may be blocking it. You may also want to use a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment to suck out any remaining debris.
Step 3: Pour Boiling Water Down the Drain
Next, pour boiling water down the drain. This will help loosen any stubborn debris that may still be stuck in the pipe. Let the water sit for several minutes before flushing it out with cold water.
Step 4: Use Baking Soda and Vinegar
To finish up, mix together equal parts baking soda and vinegar and pour them down the drain. The mixture will fizz and bubble as it works its way through the pipe, helping to break up any remaining debris. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes before flushing it out with cold water.
Step 5: Replace the Drain Cover
Finally, replace the drain cover and tighten it securely with a screwdriver or pliers. Your bathroom sink should now be free of clogs and draining properly.
