Removing Odors from a Down Sleeping Bag

Down sleeping bags are a great way to stay warm and comfortable while camping, but they can also be prone to developing unpleasant odors. Fortunately, there are several methods you can use to get rid of the smell and keep your sleeping bag fresh.

Washing the Sleeping Bag

The most effective way to remove odors from a down sleeping bag is to wash it. Start by removing any dirt or debris from the outside of the bag. Then, fill a bathtub with lukewarm water and add a mild detergent. Submerge the sleeping bag in the water and gently agitate it for several minutes. Once you’ve finished washing, rinse the bag thoroughly with clean water. Finally, hang the sleeping bag up to dry in a well-ventilated area.

Using Baking Soda

If you don’t want to go through the hassle of washing your sleeping bag, you can try using baking soda instead. Sprinkle some baking soda inside the bag and let it sit for several hours. The baking soda will absorb any odors that may be lingering in the fabric. Afterward, shake out the excess baking soda and vacuum up any remaining particles.
