How to Make a Simple Baby Blanket
Making a baby blanket is a great way to show your love and appreciation for a new bundle of joy. Whether you’re an experienced sewer or just starting out, making a simple baby blanket is easy and fun. Here are the steps to make your own cozy blanket.
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
You will need two pieces of fabric, scissors, pins, thread, and a sewing machine. Choose two pieces of fabric that coordinate with each other in color and pattern. The size of the fabric will depend on how large you want the finished blanket to be.
Step 2: Cut the Fabric
Lay the two pieces of fabric on top of each other and cut them into identical shapes. You can use a ruler to make sure they are even. If you want rounded edges, use a plate or bowl as a template.
Step 3: Pin the Pieces Together
Place the two pieces of fabric together with the right sides facing each other. Pin them together along all four edges.
Step 4: Sew Around the Edges
Using your sewing machine, sew around all four edges of the fabric. Leave about ½ inch seam allowance. Make sure to backstitch at the beginning and end of each seam.
Step 5: Trim Excess Fabric
Once you have sewn around all four edges, trim any excess fabric from the seams. This will help give your blanket a neat finish.
Step 6: Turn Right Side Out
Turn your blanket right side out so that it looks like a finished product. Use something like a chopstick or knitting needle to push out any corners that may be difficult to reach.
Step 7: Iron and Enjoy!
