Arbuckle was a soldier in the American Civil War who lost his arm during the Battle of Gettysburg. He was part of the Union Army and was fighting against Confederate forces. During the battle, he was shot in the arm by a Confederate sharpshooter. The wound was so severe that it had to be amputated.
