The Arch of Titus
The Arch of Titus is a 1st-century AD honorific arch located on the Via Sacra, just to the south-east of the Roman Forum. It was constructed in 81 AD by the Roman Emperor Domitian shortly after the death of his older brother Titus to commemorate Titus’ victories, including the Siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD.
Location
The Arch of Titus is located at the foot of the Palatine Hill, on the highest point of the Via Sacra, just to the south-east of the Roman Forum. It stands 15 meters high and 13.5 meters wide, and is made from white marble blocks. The arch is decorated with reliefs depicting scenes from Titus’ triumphal procession in 71 AD.
