The Arch in St. Louis
The Gateway Arch, located in St. Louis, Missouri, is an iconic monument that stands as a symbol of the city and its history. The arch was designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen and completed in 1965. It stands 630 feet tall and is the tallest man-made monument in the United States.
When Was the Arch Built?
Construction on the arch began in February 1963 and was completed two years later in October 1965. The project cost $13 million to build and was funded by the federal government, private donations, and state funds. The arch was dedicated on May 25th, 1968 by President Lyndon B. Johnson.
