The tallest steel arch bridge in the world is the New River Gorge Bridge located in Fayetteville, West Virginia. The bridge stands 876 feet (267 meters) above the New River and spans 3,030 feet (924 meters). It was completed in 1977 and is part of U.S. Route 19.
Construction of the New River Gorge Bridge
The construction of the New River Gorge Bridge began in 1974 and was completed three years later. The bridge was built using a combination of steel beams and cables to form an arch shape. The main span of the bridge is 1,700 feet (518 meters) long and it has two side spans that are each 615 feet (187 meters) long. The total cost of construction was $37 million.

The New River Gorge Bridge is an iconic landmark in West Virginia and is one of the most photographed bridges in the United States.
