How to Make Checkers Apple Pie

Checkers apple pie is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is sure to please any crowd. This classic recipe combines the tartness of apples with the sweetness of cinnamon and sugar, all wrapped up in a flaky crust. Ingredients

For the crust:

• 2 cups all-purpose flour

• 1 teaspoon salt

• 2/3 cup shortening

• 5 tablespoons cold water

For the filling:

• 6 large apples, peeled and sliced

• 1/2 cup white sugar

• 1/4 cup brown sugar

• 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 9 inch pie plate.

Step 2: To make the crust, mix together the flour and salt in a medium bowl. Cut in the shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add cold water, stirring with a fork until dough forms. Divide dough into two equal parts.

Step 3: Roll out one part of dough on a lightly floured surface until it is slightly larger than your pie plate. Place dough into pie plate and press down gently. Trim off excess dough around edges.

Step 4: In a separate bowl, mix together the white sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Add the sliced apples and stir until evenly coated. Pour mixture into prepared pie shell.

Step 5: Roll out remaining dough on lightly floured surface until it is slightly larger than your pie plate. Place over top of filling and trim off excess dough around edges. Crimp edges together with fingers or fork to seal.
