How to Make an Alpaca Shearing Table

Alpacas are a unique type of livestock that require special care and attention. One important part of caring for alpacas is shearing them regularly. To make the process easier, many alpaca owners choose to build their own shearing table. With the right materials and tools, you can easily construct a sturdy and reliable alpaca shearing table.

Materials Needed

To build your own alpaca shearing table, you will need the following materials:

  • Plywood (at least 3/4 inch thick)
  • 2x4s (for framing)
  • Screws
  • Nails
  • Hinges
  • Carpet or rubber matting (for padding)
  • Stainless steel clamps (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Cut the Plywood Pieces.

Using a circular saw, cut two pieces of plywood into rectangles that measure 4 feet by 8 feet. These will be the top and bottom pieces of your shearing table.

Step 2: Assemble the Frame.

Cut four 2x4s into lengths that measure 4 feet each. Use these to create a frame around the edges of both pieces of plywood. Secure the frame with screws or nails.

Step 3: Attach Hinges.

Attach hinges along one side of the frame so that you can fold up one half of the table when it is not in use. This will make it easier to store and transport your shearing table.
